Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region of Japan and was exported to Europe starting in the seventeenth century via the port of Imari, gaining widespread recognition for its distinct palette.

Imari ware is crafted from fine kaolin clay porcelain, featuring an initial layer of underglaze cobalt blue decoration followed by high firing, after which overglaze iron-red enamel and gold details are applied and fired at a lower temperature.
