Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Elizabethan oak coffer is a wooden storage chest constructed in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (15581603). These pieces are characterised by joined panel construction, hand-carved detailing, and heavy timber framing.

16th-century coffers were predominantly built using quarter-sawn English oak, held together with wooden pegs using mortise and tenon joinery. Hardware such as hinges, hasps, and locks were forged from wrought iron.

Authentic 16th-century coffers exhibit hand-planed timber surfaces, irregular wooden pegging, hand-forged ironwork, and natural shrinkage cracks along the grain. Carved dates or initials within framed panels were also common features of period joinery.

An antique coffer serves as a functional statement piece placed at the foot of a bed, positioned along an entryway hallway, or utilised as a low coffee table in a living room.

Maintain early oak furniture by keeping it in a climate-controlled environment away from direct heat sources. Regular dusting with a soft, clean microfibre cloth and an occasional application of high-quality beeswax will preserve the timber.
