Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Designed to sit directly above the fireplace mantelpiece, the overmantel mirror became a focal architectural feature in 19th-century drawing rooms, constructed to reflect light from candles and gas lamps into the centre of the room.

Frames from this period were typically constructed from carved wood coated in plaster or gesso to create ornate surface detail, which was then finished with genuine gold leaf application over a coloured bole base.

Authentic period examples often display hand-cut timber backboards, light surface cracking in the gesso, gentle wear revealing the reddish clay bole beneath the gilding, and original silvering foxing on the glass.

Placing an arched mirror above a simple fireplace or console table creates verticality and contrast against contemporary wall colours while maintaining formal balance in living or dining spaces.

Dust giltwood surfaces gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth, avoiding water or chemical sprays that dissolve water-gilded finishes or damage delicate gesso detail.
