What size bottles fit these coasters?

Standard vintage silver wine coaster designs accommodate typical 750ml wine bottles comfortably within their circular galleries. Magnum sizes require specifically designated larger holders found among nineteenth-century and Edwardian examples. Buyers should check the internal diameter measurement listed for each piece before pairing it with unusually wide champagne bottles or modern decanter bases.

How do I clean tarnished silver plate?

Gentle application of a proprietary silver polish using a soft cloth removes everyday tarnish without harming the underlying plating. Avoid abrasive pads that wear through thin silver layers on vintage items. Wooden bases require separate care using a mild furniture wax applied sparingly around the metal rim to preserve the polished timber finish.

Are these coasters suitable for daily use?

Solid sterling silver and sturdy silver-plated examples withstand regular dining table use when handled with ordinary care. The protective wooden base prevents direct contact between moisture and polished table surfaces. Pairs and matched sets serve effectively during dinner parties to pass bottles smoothly around the table while containing condensation.

How do I identify Old Sheffield plate?

Old Sheffield plate exhibits subtle copper lines showing along exposed edges where the outer silver layer wears thin over the base metal. This fusion technique differs from later nineteenth-century electroplating methods. Pieces originating from this earlier period often display characteristic weight and hand-finished construction details distinct from mass-produced twentieth-century barware.
