How do I clean a painted cabinet?

Dust surfaces gently with a soft, dry cloth to prevent accumulation. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that might strip historical or decorative paint layers. Maintain stable indoor humidity levels to protect both the underlying timber and the surface finish from cracking or warping.

What is a confiturier cabinet?

A confiturier is a traditional French jam cupboard built with a compact footprint and a single door. Originally used in country kitchens for food storage, they now serve well as bedside tables or small storage units. Their modest proportions make them versatile additions to hallways, sitting rooms, and bedrooms.

Are marble tops original?

Many French commodes and side cabinets feature fitted marble tops selected for durability and decorative contrast. These tops were frequently integrated during initial construction, particularly on finer revival pieces. Inspect the seating of the stone against the wooden frame to understand how the top relates to the carcase.

How do I distinguish rococo revival?

Rococo revival items display asymmetric curves, scrolling foliage, and ornamental motifs inspired by eighteenth-century French design. These stylistic elements appear carved into the wood or highlighted with gilt paint. Such decorative flourishes help separate revival pieces from austere provincial furniture.
