What is a vintage night table?

A vintage night table is a small bedside cabinet, cupboard, or stand originating from earlier periods like the Georgian, Victorian, or Art Deco eras. These pieces provide a surface for lamps and personal items while concealing storage space behind doors or within drawers.

How do I identify a Georgian night table?

Georgian pieces typically feature solid mahogany construction, tapered legs, and functional elements like pull-out tambour doors or enclosed pot cupboards. Proportions remain compact and symmetrical, reflecting the classical design principles of the eighteenth century.

Are pairs common for night tables?

Many listings include matched pairs of bedside tables or cabinets, allowing for balanced placement on either side of a bed. Pairs often feature identical timber veneers, hardware, and leg styles from periods such as the 1930s or the nineteenth century.

What materials were used?

Mahogany, walnut, burr walnut veneer, and oak form the primary structural timbers for these bedside pieces. Additional materials include marble tops, satinwood inlay, and brass handles or escutcheons.
