How do I wire a candlestick lamp safely?

Wiring a converted candlestick requires running cord through the central channel without damaging the internal structure or historic metal threads. Many pieces arrive already adapted for modern electrical standards. For valuable metal pieces, a professional electrician should handle the internal brass tubing and earth connections to preserve the antique body.

Are these pieces original or converted?

The category includes both original candle holders used with wax and examples that were later converted into table lamps. Conversions often occurred during the twentieth century to utilise the decorative height of brass or mahogany shafts. Inspect the base or central column for drilled holes and cord grips to determine whether a piece began life with a wick or a bulb.

How do I clean brass candlestick lighting?

Gentle dusting with a dry cloth protects the historic patina and prevents the buildup of grime on intricate cast details. Avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip away the aged surface character. Leaving a degree of darkness in the recesses highlights the craftsmanship of the original founder.

How can I tell a Georgian candlestick from a Victorian one?

Georgian examples often favour simpler architectural forms, such as petal bases in heavy brass or turned mahogany shafts. They tend to have lighter, more restrained proportions compared to later items. Victorian pieces frequently display heavier casting, more elaborate silver plating, or ambitious revival styles like Rococo and Gothic ornamentation.
