What is a traditional wood storage box used for?

These pieces served primarily for domestic storage, holding textiles, linens, valuables, and fuel supplies such as coal or logs. Their robust construction allowed them to double as benches or tables in period interiors. Today, they function effectively in modern homes as coffee tables, blanket storage at the foot of a bed, or hallway seating while concealing everyday clutter.

What distinguishes camphor wood trunks?

Camphor wood trunks originate primarily from Asian workshops and are distinguished by the aromatic scent of the timber, which naturally repels insects. They frequently feature carved relief scenes and brass hardware. These chests were frequently utilised during the nineteenth century for maritime travel and colonial transport due to the wood's durability and resistance to humidity.

How should I care for a painted blanket chest?

Painted chests require protection from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent the original pigments and lacquers from cracking or fading. Dusting should be performed gently with a dry, soft cloth without applying modern chemical polishes. Maintaining a stable indoor climate preserves both the structural wood and the decorative surface decoration over time.
