Where do I put a slim open shelving unit?

These narrow pieces fit easily into alcoves, hallways, and smaller reception rooms where floor space is limited. Their open design keeps the room feeling light while providing functional storage. Position them away from direct heat sources to protect the timber and veneers from drying out over time.

How do I clean wooden shelves?

Dust the surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent dirt buildup in the grain. Avoid chemical sprays that can damage antique polishes. Apply a traditional beeswax occasionally to nourish the timber and maintain the natural sheen of the finish.

Can these shelves hold heavy books?

Most pieces handle standard collections of books comfortably, though the load capacity depends on the thickness of the timber and the shelf supports. Distribute heavier volumes across the lower tiers for stability. Inspect the shelf fixings periodically to ensure the structure remains secure under weight.

What is an étagère?

An étagère is a tiered piece of furniture designed specifically for display rather than heavy storage. These units often feature open sides and multiple levels for ornaments and books. They offer a decorative alternative to traditional enclosed bookcases in smaller interiors.
