How do I clean a scrub top?

Traditional maintenance involved scrubbing the wood along the grain using warm water and stiff brushes. Modern owners generally maintain the pale finish with gentle soap and damp cloths. Avoid harsh chemical strippers that strip away the historical patination accumulated over generations of use.

Where were these tables made?

Surviving examples originate from farmhouses, country homes, dairies, and taverns across Britain, France, and Sweden. Regional carpenters built them using locally available timber. French Normandy and Welsh examples often feature distinctive base designs and specific regional woods like fruitwood or elm.

Can I use one for daily dining?

These tables were originally built for heavy domestic work, making them exceptionally sturdy for everyday meals. Their solid wood construction handles daily family life with ease. Using placemats and coasters helps protect the historic surface from moisture rings and heavy heat marks.
