What is a curb chain?

A curb chain is a type of jewellery chain featuring interlocking, twisted links that are flattened to lie completely flat against the skin. This construction provides flexibility and a smooth finish. Historically, these chains were utilised for pocket watches, necklaces, and heavy charm bracelets. The uniform design distributes weight evenly across the wearer.

How do I wear an antique chain?

Antique chains can be worn wrapped around the wrist as a multi-strand bracelet or fastened securely around the neck. Many pieces feature original dog clips or padlocks for versatile styling. Matching the chain length to your preferred placement ensures comfortable daily wear. Heavier pieces work well alone as statement items.

Are these chains solid gold?

The pieces recorded in these listings are formed from 9ct and 15ct rose gold. Solid links offer longevity and resistance to daily wear. Checking the weight provides an indication of whether the links are solid or hollow. Hallmarks and stamps often verify the gold standard used by the maker.

How do I open a heart padlock?

Heart padlocks on antique bracelets typically operate via a small internal spring mechanism. Pressing the hinged arm or releasing the catch opens the fastening. Careful handling prevents strain on the hinge and surrounding jump rings. Many padlocks serve a decorative as well as a functional purpose.
