How do I identify a genuine campaign table?

Look for recessed brass hardware, sectional construction, and removable legs designed for packing into transit crates. Genuine pieces show practical engineering intended to withstand frequent assembly and disassembly. Examine the interior for maker stamps and check that folding mechanisms operate securely without modern replacement brackets.

What periods do these tables come from?

The available pieces primarily date from the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras, spanning the late eighteenth to the early twentieth century. Georgian and Regency examples often reflect campaign demands from colonial expansion. Later Victorian and Edwardian items continue the tradition, sometimes incorporating Art Deco influences or simplified colonial styles.

Can I use a campaign table daily?

These tables adapt well to modern living rooms, studies, and bedrooms as functional desks or coffee tables. Their sturdy mahogany construction and compact footprints suit contemporary spaces. Take care to protect leather writing surfaces from moisture and avoid placing heavy damp items on antique polished timber.
