A tallboy is a tall chest of drawers traditionally constructed in two stacked sections to maximise vertical storage. This form allowed makers to combine the capacity of a large chest with a smaller footprint on the floor.

How do I use a secretaire drawer?

The front of a secretaire drawer folds down on hinges to create a writing surface supported by internal sliding arms. Inside, you will find small drawers and pigeonholes designed for stationery and correspondence.

How do I tell Georgian from Victorian pieces?

Georgian pieces often display restrained classical proportions, bracket feet, and solid mahogany or oak linings. Victorian examples frequently introduce denser carcases, machine-sawn elements, and varied secondary timbers like maple.

Are campaign tallboys portable?

Campaign tallboys were designed for military officers, splitting into separate modular sections with recessed brass handles for travel. This construction made them robust enough for frequent transport across distant territories.
