How do I fit a modern mattress?

Many antique frames require custom mattress sizing or modern slat systems to support standard dimensions safely. A specialist can adapt the internal rails without altering the external appearance. Checking the width between the side rails ensures your chosen mattress drops securely into the wooden cradle.

Are bedside cabinets always included?

Some listings bundle matching bedside cabinets with the bed frame to create a uniform suite. Others offer the bedstead entirely on its own. Reviewing the individual item description clarifies whether companion pieces form part of the purchase.

How do I care for the wood?

Regular dusting with a dry, soft cloth prevents particle buildup on carved surfaces and ormolu mounts. Avoiding direct sunlight preserves the natural finish of the walnut or kingwood. Applying occasional appropriate wax maintains the sheen without sealing moisture into the antique timber.

How do I date these beds?

Dating relies on construction methods, timber choice, and the specific characteristics of the revival period. Nineteenth-century examples often display denser hardwoods and hand-cut joinery. Later pieces from the early twentieth century incorporate subtle shifts in proportion and machine assistance.
