How do I care for limed oak?

Limed and bleached oak surfaces require gentle dusting with a dry cloth to protect the pale pigment settled within the open grain. Avoid harsh commercial polishes and excess moisture that can lift surface treatments. Maintaining a stable indoor humidity prevents timber movement and preserves the original waxed or treated finish of the oak.

What is a plan chest?

A plan chest is a wide, shallow multi-drawer cabinet originally designed for storing architectural drawings, maps, and large documents. These pieces are constructed from timber such as oak and feature numerous flat drawers. Modern interiors utilise these sturdy cabinets for general storage or as display surfaces in living spaces.

What distinguishes Arts and Crafts oak?

Arts and Crafts furniture prioritises visible hand-craftsmanship, exposed joinery, and natural timber qualities over excessive applied decoration. Pieces often feature solid construction using local woods like oak and ash. Design emphases lean towards functional utility, sturdy proportions, and simple, honest construction methods.
