Are these tables original low tables?

Many low tables found today began life as taller occasional, centre, or drum tables which were subsequently reduced in height to suit modern seating. Examine the proportions of the legs and the lower frieze to see if the reduction was handled sympathetically by a cabinetmaker.

How do I care for the leather?

Leather surfaces benefit from occasional feeding with a neutral wax or leather cream to prevent the hide from drying and cracking over time. Avoid placing hot cups directly onto the leather and use coasters to protect the vintage finish from moisture rings.

What is a campaign style table?

Campaign furniture was built for officers on military campaigns overseas, requiring sturdy construction that could be packed down into trunks. These pieces feature recessed brass handles and corner brackets to prevent snagging during transit.

How do I date an antique table?

Dating relies on observing the secondary woods, the method of drawer construction, and the overall style of the turning or carving. Victorian pieces often show heavier proportions and walnut or mahogany timbers, while Georgian examples display finer lines and simpler geometry.
