What is an industrial storage chest?

An industrial storage chest is a utilitarian piece of furniture originally built for factories, military campaigns or commercial shops to store tools, documents or goods. These items rely on durable materials like pine, oak, iron and steel, prioritising strength and function over ornamentation.

How were plan chests used?

Plan chests were designed with many wide, shallow drawers to hold large sheets of paper, architectural drawings and maps flat without creasing. In modern interiors, their low profile and expansive tops make them popular alternatives to standard sideboards or coffee tables.

What distinguishes a campaign chest?

Campaign chests were constructed in separate modular sections with flush brass handles and corner brackets so officers could transport them easily on travels. This clever engineering allowed heavy storage units to break down into manageable boxes for shipping and field deployment.

How do I care for antique pine?

Antique pine benefits from occasional applications of natural wax to nourish the dry timber and protect the surface from moisture. Avoid placing these chests in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent the historic wood from splitting.

Can I use shop fittings at home?

Shop fittings, such as haberdashery cabinets and multi-drawer chemist banks, provide exceptional organisational capacity for modern domestic spaces. Their numerous small compartments suit the storage of cutlery, stationery or collections while adding industrial character to a room.
