How do I identify an impasto oil painting canvas?

Look for visible ridges and peaks of pigment that stand proud of the textile support. The surface should feel tactile and display the physical marks of the artist's tool. Examine the edges where the paint meets the frame to observe the depth of the layered oil medium.

How should I care for an oil painting on canvas?

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight and severe fluctuations in household temperature or humidity. This prevents the canvas from slackening and stops thick oil paint from becoming brittle. Dust the surface very gently with a soft, dry brush without pressing down on the raised impasto ridges.

Are these paintings supplied with frames?

Many listings include period surrounds made of wood or gilt wood that complement the era of the artwork. These frames protect the edges of the canvas and complete the presentation. Check individual item details to confirm whether a specific piece retains its original period frame.
