What is a green glass vanity bottle used for?

These bottles served to hold liquid perfumes, scents, or cosmetic waters on a lady's dressing table. Their secure stoppers and metal mounts prevented evaporation of the precious contents. They also functioned as decorative objects in their own right, reflecting light and adding vibrant colour to private chambers and boudoirs.

How do I identify Victorian pieces?

Victorian examples often feature heavier cut glass, intricate silver overlay, or painted motifs such as Mary Gregory designs. They typically date from the mid to late nineteenth century. Examination of the metal mounts and any applicable hallmarks provides a reliable method to confirm the nineteenth-century period of manufacture.

What is Art Deco style in these bottles?

Art Deco pieces from the 1920s and 1930s favour geometric lines, streamlined forms, and stark contrasts between coloured glass and chrome or enamel. Maker attribution is more common in this era. These items often include atomiser stands and matching powder jars as part of a cohesive dressing table ensemble.

How should I clean my scent bottle?

Dust gently with a soft cloth and avoid submerging vintage metal mounts in harsh cleaning solutions. Silver components require specialised polishes applied sparingly away from the glass. Interior cleaning should be done with care using warm water, avoiding extreme temperature shifts that might stress antique glass.
