How do I clean a vintage glass drinks tray?

Use a soft cloth with mild soapy water for the glass surface, avoiding abrasive pads that can scratch the silvering or etching. Keep moisture away from any exposed wooden backing or mirror edges to prevent corrosion over time.

Were these trays made for everyday use?

Many were designed specifically for hosting cocktails and serving liqueurs during the height of the Art Deco period. Sturdy chrome and silver-plated frames meant they could handle the weight of heavy decanters and glasses safely.

How do I date an Art Deco mirror tray?

Examine the framing materials, such as the use of chrome or macassar veneer, alongside the thickness of the glass plate. Geometric motifs and stencil-etched figures point directly to production methods common in the 1920s and 1930s.

What is the difference between a tray and an etagere?

A tray is a portable serving surface with handles or a gallery edge, whereas an etagere is a standing multi-tiered display shelving unit. Some Edwardian and 19th-century etageres integrate a detachable tray as their top surface for dual functionality.
