How do I clean a crystal chandelier?

Cleaning requires a specialised glass cleaner and a soft cloth applied by hand to each individual crystal drop. Care must be taken around antique gilt finishes to avoid harsh chemical abrasion. Many owners prefer cleaning the drops in situ while supporting the brass or bronze armature to prevent strain on the historical wiring and delicate frame.

Are these chandeliers already wired for modern electricity?

Most surviving fixtures from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries have been converted for electrical use during their history. Rewiring is often updated to meet contemporary safety standards. Buyers should inspect the internal candle tubes and wiring channels to confirm compatibility with current domestic electrical installations.

How do I determine the right size chandelier?

Selecting the correct proportion depends on the room's dimensions and ceiling height rather than the light count alone. Larger sixteen or twenty-five light tiers require substantial clearance to hang safely. Smaller single-light lanterns or three-arm fixtures suit modest spaces or hallways where expansive drop heights would obstruct movement.

What is the difference between brass and gilt bronze?

Brass is a durable alloy of copper and zinc with a naturally warm metallic tone that can be polished or left to age. Gilt bronze consists of a bronze casting treated with a gold surface layer. Gilt bronze generally offers heavier weight, finer sculptural detail in the rococo scrolls, and a deeper golden radiance compared to standard brass.
