How do I assemble a knockdown wardrobe?

Knockdown wardrobes utilise interlocking timber sections or internal peg systems that fit together without complex modern fixings. Patience and an extra pair of hands ensure each panel aligns correctly before final tightening. Care must be taken to check that the carcass remains square during assembly so that the doors hang evenly within their frames.

Can I paint a waxed pine armoire?

Waxed pine requires thorough preparation before painting because residual wax prevents modern paint layers from adhering properly. The surface needs careful cleaning and light sanding to remove old wax build-up. Applying an appropriate primer creates a stable barrier that ensures an even, durable finish for painted variants.

How do I care for antique pine furniture?

Regular dusting with a dry cloth keeps the surface clean without introducing moisture that could harm older timbers. Occasional applications of a quality beeswax nourish the wood and maintain its soft sheen. Positioning pieces away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight prevents the pine from drying out, warping, or splitting over time.

What is the difference between an armoire and a larder cupboard?

An armoire functions primarily as a wardrobe or general storage cupboard with internal hanging space or shelves for garments. A larder cupboard is built specifically for culinary storage, often featuring specialised interior layouts. Historic larder pieces frequently include deep shelving or compartmentalised sections suited to provisions rather than clothing.
