How old are these paintings?

The works span multiple centuries, with examples originating from the sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries alongside early twentieth century pieces. Specific dates often appear in the title or can be attributed through stylistic markers associated with regional schools.

Are the frames original to the canvas?

Many pieces retain period wooden or giltwood frames that match the era of the painting, though some works have been reframed over time. Frame materials typically include hand carved wood, gesso, and gold leaf applied according to historical traditions.

What subjects are most common?

Religious iconography, portraits of saints, and devotional scenes form a substantial portion of the earlier works available. Secular subjects include Andalucian riders, genre portraits, marine landscapes, and card players from later nineteenth and twentieth century periods.

How should I hang a heavy framed canvas?

Due to the substantial weight of antique giltwood frames and wooden stretchers, secure wall anchors and appropriate fixings are essential for safe display. Ensure the hanging wire or brackets on the back of the frame are robust enough to support the total mass of the artwork.
