How should I hang framed paper landscape art?

Keep these works out of direct sunlight to prevent the watercolour pigments and paper from fading over time. Hang them on interior walls where humidity and temperature remain stable. Use picture hooks appropriate for the weight of the wood frame and glass. Professional framing with acid-free backing boards helps protect the paper for decades.

What is the difference between a watercolour and a drawing?

Watercolours utilise water-soluble pigments to build up coloured washes and atmospheric effects across the paper surface. Drawings rely primarily on linear marks made with ink, pencil, charcoal or pastel. Many listed pieces combine both techniques, using ink outlines underneath translucent washes of watercolour pigment.

How do I identify the period of a piece?

Examine the style of the art, the paper type and the construction of the wood frame. Victorian and Edwardian works often feature detailed naturalism or early impressionist brushwork. Signatures, dates inscribed by the artist and old gallery labels on the reverse provide definitive evidence of the production era.

Are these works always unique originals?

Most items listed are unique hand-painted watercolours, drawings or pastels created directly by the artist. These singular works differ from mass-produced prints. The page also includes period engravings and lithographs, which were printed in limited numbers from plates or stones.
