How do I choose the right size chandelier?

Consider the proportions of your room and the height of your ceiling when selecting a multi-arm fixture. Larger spaces accommodate multi-tiered designs with twelve or more lights. Ensure there is adequate clearance beneath the fitting for people to walk underneath safely, particularly in hallways or over dining tables.

Where should wall sconces be placed?

Wall sconces work effectively in pairs flanking mirrors, fireplaces or structural entryways to provide balanced ambient light. Twin-arm variants offer greater illumination in darker corners. Position them at eye level to prevent direct glare from the bulbs while highlighting surrounding wall surfaces.

What is the difference between brass and gilt bronze?

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc with a naturally bright golden appearance, utilised extensively for structural frames and candelabra. Gilt bronze involves a bronze base metal treated with a surface application of gold, producing a richer and more enduring golden tone often seen on period pieces.

How are crystal bag chandeliers constructed?

These fixtures feature a flattened metal base basket from which dense clusters or bags of small crystal beads are suspended. A tent of strings fans out upwards to the main ceiling crown. This dense arrangement diffuses the internal light source into a soft, sparkling glow characteristic of the period.
