What periods do these pieces come from?

The selection spans the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, taking in Georgian, Regency, Victorian and Edwardian eras. Each period brings distinct proportions and decorative treatments to the timber. Buyers will find that earlier pieces often employ solid timbers and straightforward joinery, while subsequent decades introduced varied veneers and regional European influences.

How do I care for antique mahogany?

Keep wooden furniture away from direct heat sources and dramatic humidity fluctuations to prevent the timber and veneer from splitting. Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth maintains the surface. Occasional applications of appropriate wax polish help nourish the grain without building up heavy residues that obscure the historic patination.

What is the difference between a tallboy and a standard chest?

A standard chest of drawers sits at a comfortable waist height, designed for general clothing storage and surface display. A tallboy stacks additional drawer tiers vertically to increase capacity while occupying a smaller floor footprint. Tallboys often combine a smaller chest base with an upper section, creating a commanding architectural presence in a bedroom.

Are pine pieces considered formal furniture?

Pine was typically utilised for secondary furniture, country workshops or utilitarian pieces rather than grand formal drawing rooms. However, larger waxed pine wardrobes and chests offer practical storage with a rustic aesthetic. These pieces provide a robust, characterful alternative to darker, highly polished hardwoods.
