How do I style a full height mirror?

Position the piece against a main wall to bounce natural light deep into the room. Leaner formats work well directly on the floor to create an immediate sense of space. Ensure the wall fixings support the heavy timber and glass construction safely if you choose to mount the mirror rather than let it rest on the floor.

What periods do these mirrors come from?

The available selection primarily dates from the nineteenth century, encompassing Regency pieces and later Victorian examples. Styles draw heavily on French Rococo Revival and Louis XVI designs. Maker influences span English, French, and Italian traditions from eighteen fifty to nineteen hundred.

How do I identify original gilding?

Original gilt surfaces often show subtle craquelure and thinning over the gesso where handling occurred over generations. Look for the warm tone of gold or silver leaf applied over a red clay base. Later repainting tends to obscure the sharp undercutting of the carved wooden leaf details.
