Where were these figures placed?

These figurative lights stood upon mantelpieces, side tables, and pedestals within principal reception rooms. Larger torcheres occupied corners of hallways and grand salons to provide ambient illumination.

How do I identify a cast?

Examine the weight and underside of the piece to distinguish between bronze and zinc-based spelter. Bronze yields a denser feel and sharper casting lines compared to softer alloys. Signatures or foundry marks inscribed near the base often indicate the artisan or workshop responsible for the model.

Can modern bulbs be fitted?

Most lamp conversions accommodate standard modern wiring and low-heat LED bulbs without altering the antique metalwork. Professional rewiring preserves the internal channels while ensuring safety for daily household use.

Nineteenth-century interpretations of Neoclassical and French Empire designs appear frequently across the selection. These styles draw directly upon ancient Greek and Roman motifs. Art Nouveau variations also emerge, incorporating more fluid, organic lines into the figurative bases.
