What is a brass bound wooden coffer used for?

These chests were originally built for military officers, merchants and travellers to transport personal belongings and valuables securely across long distances. Today, they serve well in modern homes as sturdy coffee tables, blanket boxes or deep storage chests that conceal clutter while adding historic character.

How do I care for camphor wood?

Camphor wood requires minimal maintenance beyond dusting with a soft cloth and avoiding placement near direct heat sources or strong sunlight. The natural oils within the timber help preserve the wood, so harsh chemical polishes are unnecessary and should be avoided.

Are these chests genuinely old?

The selection includes authentic pieces dating from the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, reflecting distinct periods of colonial trade and military expansion. Construction details such as hand-cut dovetails, heavy brass mounts and period locks help confirm their genuine historic age.

Do these trunks come with working keys?

Many campaign chests retain their original locks, and some include functional period keys, though older locks can occasionally be delicate. If a key is missing or the mechanism is stiff, a specialist restorer can often service the original hardware without altering the chest.
