What is a partners desk?

A partners desk is a substantial double-sided workspace built so two people can sit opposite each other. These tables feature cupboards or drawers on both the front and the reverse. They were traditionally used in libraries, studies, and administrative offices where clerks or colleagues shared a single piece of furniture.

How do I care for a leather top?

Leather writing surfaces require gentle cleaning with a soft, slightly damp cloth and occasional treatment with appropriate leather balms. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture. Keeping the leather conditioned prevents cracking and preserves the gold tooling that frames the edge of the writing area.

Are these desks suitable for daily use?

These tables provide sturdy surfaces for modern writing, laptop use, and daily study tasks. Their robust construction supports regular office work. Using coasters and blotters helps protect the historic timber and leather surfaces from accidental damage during everyday use.

How do I identify Art Deco examples?

Art Deco writing tables display streamlined geometric forms, sleek burr walnut veneers, and often incorporate glass or contrasting metal elements. They date from the early to mid-twentieth century. Unlike ornate Victorian or revival styles, these pieces emphasise clean silhouettes and minimalist hardware.
