How do I choose the right size?

Review the listed dimensions carefully to determine whether the frame accommodates standard modern mattress sizes. French sizing terminology often differs slightly from contemporary British standards. Check the internal width and length measurements provided in the individual listings to ensure a proper fit for your bedroom space.

Are these beds easy to assemble?

Most antique wooden and metal bedframes utilise standard bolt-in side rails that dismantle for transport. Assembly typically requires basic hand tools to secure the headboard and footboard to the side rails. Ensure that all metal brackets and wooden tenons align correctly to maintain structural stability before placing a mattress inside the frame.

Can I use a modern mattress?

Many antique frames accept standard modern mattresses provided the internal dimensions match your specific mattress width and length. Slatted bases or modern wooden supports can be placed inside the rails to accommodate contemporary mattress depths. Verify the clearance between the side rails and the floor to ensure proper support and aesthetic alignment with the footboard.

How do I care for the wood?

Maintain polished or limed timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid placing wooden bedframes near direct heat sources or in damp environments to prevent timber movement. Apply a quality furniture wax periodically to nourish walnut, oak, and mahogany finishes without leaving a heavy buildup.
