A lowboy is a small table with drawers, typically used as a dressing table or side table, which became prominent during the Georgian period in the 18th century.

Authentic period pieces were constructed predominantly using solid timbers such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, featuring traditional joinery like dovetail joints on the drawer construction.

Authentication involves examining timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetails, original brass hardware or properly filled old mounting holes, and overall patination consistent with eighteenth-century manufacturing.

This piece functions effectively as a compact entrance hall table, a desk in a study, or an occasional surface in a living room, contrasting clean contemporary lines with historical texture.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight exposure, and periodically treating the timber with traditional beeswax to nourish the wood finish.
