Lovely light original colour, with birds eye maple cross banded top. On tapering square legs with decorative boxwood string inlay.

The hinged top lifts open and is supported by gate legs to create a larger polished mahogany table surface.

Originating in early 19th-century Britain, a Regency tea table is a piece of occasional furniture designed with a fold-over top. When closed against a wall, it served as a compact console table, and when opened, it provided a double-sized surface for social tea service.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era primarily utilised Cuban or Santo Domingo mahogany, often accentuating the grain with flame mahogany veneers. Secondary timbers such as oak or pine were used for internal framing, while boxwood, ebony, or brass were applied for decorative stringing and banding.
