Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency mahogany tea table is a piece of early 19th-century occasional furniture designed specifically for serving tea. Featuring a folding or swivelling top, these tables were constructed to stand compactly against a wall when folded and open out to double their surface area during social gatherings.

These tables were typically crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, prized for their rich grain and durability. Construction included hand-turned central pedestals, brass rule hinges for the folding leaf, dovetailed framing, and hand-cast brass hairy paw or box castors.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut brass hinges with original screws, evidence of hand-planing on underside surfaces, and natural uneven oxidisation in the wood grain. The weight of dense historical timber, original brass castors, and period-appropriate wear along the folding seams also signal authenticity.

When folded, the table functions as a console table in a hallway or a slim side table behind a sofa. In larger rooms, it can be positioned open in a bay window or reading corner to display books, lighting, or decorative ceramics.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight to prevent warping and bleaching. Dust regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and apply a thin coat of natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish.
