Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency tea table is a 19th-century British occasional table designed with a hinged fold-over top. Popular during the early 1800s, these tables served social rituals like afternoon tea and card playing, resting against a wall as a decorative console when closed.

Craftsmen primarily used fine mahogany veneers, often incorporating contrasting wood inlays such as satinwood or rosewood. Secondary timbers like oak or pine formed the interior frame, while brass hinges supported the folding top mechanism.

Authentic pieces feature period construction methods, including hand-cut dovetail joints, brass butt hinges, and natural wood oxidisation on underside surfaces. Regency designs typically exhibit classical proportions, serpentine or bow fronts, and square tapered or slender turned legs.

Place the table against a wall in an entryway or hallway to function as a compact console table. Complement the dark mahogany timber with modern abstract artwork above, or pair it with contemporary ceramic vessels to contrast historical and modern elements.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting.
