Description

Gorgeous William IV fold over tea table made from solid mahogany in excellent condition. The rectangular shape top with canted and reeded fore-edge sits on cushion frieze swivels to reveal storage ideal for table cloths, mats or games. Its beautifully turned column support with its mixture of rings and a reeded section has a raised collar and sits on a concave quadruple platform base with acanthus decorations and scrolling ends terminating on brass castors. This is a very versatile table that can be used as a console or side table and when opened it is an ideal size for an intimate supper. This charming little table with its gorgeous rich colouring and amazing graining will look stunning in many places in the home.

Produced during the reign of King William IV between 1830 and 1837, these tables bridge the Regency and early Victorian eras. They typically feature heavy, robust proportions, central turned pedestals, fluted or acanthus leaf carving, shaped quadform plinth bases, and a swivelling hinged top that opens to reveal an extended surface.
