We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A moonphase longcase clock is a tall, pendulum-driven floor clock featuring a mechanical dial that tracks the lunar cycle alongside standard timekeeping. Popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries, these timepieces allowed households to track full moons for night travel and tides.

Traditional longcase clocks from this era were constructed using dense hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, often featuring hand-painted enamel dials, brass movements, cast lead weights, and decorative brass finials or spandrels.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut movement gears, original weight-driven pendulum mechanisms, hand-lettered maker signatures on the dial, period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, and natural age patina on the timber casing.

Place a longcase clock as a focal architectural element in an entryway, hallway, or dining space, pairing its dark wood tones with neutral wall colours, structured panelling, or complementary period artwork.

Keep the timber case away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity to prevent warping. Movements require periodic professional cleaning and lubrication every five to seven years, while the wooden cabinet should be dusted with a microfibre cloth and treated with beeswax.
