This clock is in very original condition including the hands and finials to the top of the pagoda hood, lovely colour to the case.

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

A longcase clock, commonly known as a grandfather clock, is a tall, weight-driven pendulum clock housed in a freestanding wooden cabinet, developed in the late 17th century and refined throughout the Georgian period.

High-grade mahogany, oak, and walnut were standard for the cabinetry, complemented by cast brass dial spandrels, silvered chapter rings, brass weight shells, and iron movement frames.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, period-correct movement mounting plates, original cast brass fittings, hand-engraved dial details, and natural timber patination.

Position the clock as an architectural accent in a hallway, formal dining room, or study, using dark timber to contrast against neutral wall tones and tailored contemporary furnishings.

Keep the clock situated away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood movement, apply natural beeswax to the cabinet casing, and have the mechanical movement lubricated by a qualified horologist every five to seven years.
