Aaron Nejad Carpets and Rugs has dated this Antique Turkmen Bagface to the 1890s.
This torba was probably woven in the region of Beshir, Uzbekistan where there was a rich local tradition of silk and ikat production. The design of this field is clearly inspired by silk ikats but it has retained the latchhook guls and geometric borders associated with the Turkmen. The design has been executed in an elegant way. It has very nice soft wool, lovely dyes including a deep bottle green, and is in excellent condition. There are indications on the back that it may have been hung up on the wall in recent times. Professionally cleaned.
