Superb Quality Antique French Wall Mirror

Description

A delightful ,small and perfectly formed antique 18c or 19c French or Italian gilt and gesso wall mirror. The history this piece exudes is wonderful - the beautifully detailed gilded frame has at some point in it's lifetime been over painted in a wonderful deep red paint that can only be at the latest of the nineteenth century, this paint however has over decades of exposure and cleaning, worn back to reveal the original gilt underneath once again! the resulting mix of antique red and gilding is really a joy! The plate is extremely heavy and with some typical foxing. Which ever this room ends up in, it will always reveal an opulent, chequered past!

Heavy and solid. over paint to gilding, some mirror plate oxidation
