French Impressionist landscape painting developed in the late 19th century, characterised by loose brushwork, an emphasis on natural light, and outdoor plein-air composition capturing everyday scenes and nature.

Artists during this era typically painted with oil pigments bound with linseed oil on stretched linen canvas, wooden panels, or heavy artists board.

Authentic period artworks display natural age-related craquelure, period-appropriate timber or canvas backings, artist signatures or monograms, and rapid, layered plein-air application techniques.

A late 19th-century landscape painting can be hung as a single focal point above a console table, framed in a simple or gilded moulding, or integrated into an eclectic gallery wall.

Oil paintings should be displayed away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity. Surface dust should be removed gently using a dry, soft-haired brush, avoiding commercial cleaners or water.
