Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small, low table or chest of drawers created during the early 18th century, designed primarily as a dressing table or side table. Originating during the William and Mary and Queen Anne periods, these pieces typically feature cabriole or turned legs with a series of small drawers set above a shaped apron.

Early 18th-century lowboys were predominantly constructed from walnut, red walnut, oak, or mahogany. Drawer linings were usually made from softwoods or oak, and cabinetmakers fitted them with solid brass backplates and drop handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and original brass fittings showing natural oxidisation. The underside of the carcass will feature irregular wear, and original cabriole legs often show subtle hand-carved variations rather than machine perfection.

An antique lowboy serves as a versatile statement piece when positioned in a hallway as a console table or used in a bedroom as a traditional dressing table. Incorporating contemporary table lamps or modern artwork above the piece creates a refined, layered aesthetic.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Avoid aerosol polishes, direct sunlight, and excessive humidity changes to prevent timber movement or cracking.
