Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II walnut lowboy is a small British side table dating from the reign of King George II (17271760). Characterised by its short legs, drawer configuration, and decorative apron, it was originally designed as a dressing table or writing surface.

Georgian lowboys were typically constructed with solid wood frames, such as oak or pine, covered in figured walnut or burr walnut veneers. Drawers feature hand-cut dovetail joints, solid drawer linings, and cast brass drop handles with decorative backplates.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-saw marks on the carcass framing, irregular hand-cut dovetails, original pine or oak secondary woods, and genuine age patination around the handles and feet. The veneer often shows light surface cracking or natural shrinkage consistent with age.

A lowboy serves as a compact console table in an entryway, a distinctive bedside table, or an occasional desk in a hallway. Its natural wood tones pair well with contemporary neutral palettes, structural lamps, and understated modern art.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp conditions to prevent veneer shrinkage or lifting.
