Description

This is a large antique hall settle. An Italian, pine and walnut bench or pew with Oriental taste, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850.
Imposing in proportion and carved detail, ideal for the grand reception hall
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
Pine and walnut stocks show fine grain interest throughout
Presents rich caramel hues beneath a quality wax polish finish
Prominent surmount hosts a field panel with galleried rail to either side
Further accentuated with ball finials, carved beading and foliate patera
Large decorative panels to the back stand with relief carved dragon heads and scrolled foliage
Impressive brackets with dragon head forms reinforce the Oriental overtones
Seat base with inset lid decorated with demi-lune carvings to the rolled edge
Useful storage area set within the wide seat base
Corbel brackets frame a pair of carved field panels to centre
The whole standing upon a quartet of squat bun feet beneath a stout apron
