Description
Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale stunning sofa and armchair suite of very rare oversized Victorian Barrel back armchair and sofa in fully restored hand dyed brown leather. Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price. These are a good early pair, circa 1860, they have the period fluted backs, coil sprung base with hessian cover, horsehair and hessian padding, the wings are absolutely massive, both pieces are very substantial, they weigh maybe three times as much as a modern reproduction piece. The feet are hand carved in the early Georgian manor but as mentioned I believe these to be later Victorian pieces. Both pieces have been fully restored to include being hand dyed this deep cigar brown colour, the hessian base covers have been replaced, some repairs to the cushion linings and base covers and so on, they are a good old pair in ready to go condition. The only point to note is the back of the sofa has been repaired, there was a large straight-line tear in the leather which has been padded and sealed internally, we could have / still can replace the whole back panel of leather however as its the original hide we have left it as it is.
