Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian pedestal desk consists of a flat writing surface supported by two vertical columns of drawers, known as pedestals, created to provide substantial storage for office or library use. Popularised in the 19th century, these desks frequently feature leather inset tops with gold tooling and symmetrical drawer configurations.

High-quality Victorian pedestal desks were predominantly constructed from solid woods and veneers such as oak, mahogany, and walnut. Writing surfaces were typically inset with gilded leather, complemented by brass or turned timber handles and steel lock mechanisms.

Authentic pieces by the renowned London cabinetmaker Edwards & Roberts often bear a stamped makers mark or metal trade plaque on the drawer edge or lock plate. Authentication is further supported by superior joinery, fine drawer dovetails, quality timber selection, and precise carving.

An antique oak desk can be integrated into contemporary interiors by pairing it with modern task lighting, a sleek mid-century modern or leather desk chair, and neutral wall palettes. Floating shelving or minimalist artwork above the desk balances the visual weight of the timber.

Preserve the oak finish by applying a natural beeswax polish twice yearly and dusting regularly with a soft cloth. Keep the leather top supple using specialist leather cream, and place the piece away from direct heat sources or harsh sunlight to prevent timber movement and leather drying.
