Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian longcase clock is a tall, weight-driven freestanding timepiece manufactured during the reign of the Hanoverian monarchs in Britain, typically characterised by a proportioned timber housing and a brass dial movement.

These clocks were predominantly constructed from solid and veneered mahogany, oak, or walnut, housing brass clockworks, cast brass spandrels, steel hands, and lead drive weights.

Authenticity can be determined by examining the construction techniques, such as hand-cut dovetail joints, cast brass spandrels, hand-engraved dial plates, and maker marks signatures on the clock face.

A longcase clock serves as a structural focal point in entryways, stairwells, or dining rooms, providing a architectural anchor when contrasted against neutral contemporary walls.

The mechanical movement requires regular lubrication by a professional horologist every five to seven years, while the mahogany case should be kept level and preserved with natural beeswax paste.
