Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An eight-day longcase clock is a weight-driven pendulum clock requiring winding once per week. Enclosed in a tall wooden cabinet, these timepieces were widely produced in Britain throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.

19th-century longcase clock cabinets were predominantly crafted from mahogany, oak, or walnut, frequently accented with flame veneers and marquetry inlay. The internal mechanisms were constructed using brass and iron plates, paired with painted or engraved dials.

Authentic period longcase clocks demonstrate hand-finished joinery, natural patination, and movement components that fit the dial and case correctly. Dials often feature period hand-painted artwork, arch decoration, and winding holes aligned precisely with the mechanism.

Position a longcase clock as an architectural accent in an entrance hall, dining room, or study. Set against a neutral wall, the deep timber tones create contrast alongside classic or modern furnishings.

Keep the clock in a stable environment away from direct heat sources to protect the mahogany case from drying or splitting. Dust the cabinet regularly with a soft cloth and consult a professional horologist for movement maintenance every five to seven years.
