Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century France, the etagere table was developed as a tiered occasional piece designed to display small ornaments, porcelain, or curiosities. The design evolved through the Neoclassical and 19th-century periods, incorporating functional shelves and marble surfaces for serving beverages or holding lamps.

Traditional French etagere tables are constructed using hardwoods such as solid mahogany, rosewood, or kingwood, often featuring satinwood or boxwood inlays. Tops frequently incorporate imported marble slabs framed with cast brass or gilt-bronze (ormolu) galleries and mounts.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers or trays, natural age patina on brass gallery trims, and hand-planed timber undersides. The marble top should fit precisely into its metal surround, showing historical wear or minor natural veining variations without synthetic resin finishes.

Position the piece as an accent side table beside contemporary upholstery to create depth through contrasting textures. Use the upper marble shelf for beverages or a small desk lamp, while keeping the lower wooden tier styled with stacked art books or framed photographs.

Dust mahogany surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually along the grain. Clean marble tops using a damp, non-abrasive microfiber cloth and neutral pH soap, ensuring liquid spills are wiped immediately to prevent stone staining or acid etching.
