Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mid-18th century tripod tables are circular occasional tables characterised by a central turned pedestal supported by three cabriole legs. Popularised during the Georgian era, they were primarily designed for flexible placement in reception rooms for serving tea or displaying objects.

These tables were most commonly crafted from solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for its density, rich grain structure, and durability. The underlying support mechanisms and block structures occasionally incorporated native hardwoods such as oak or pine.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of period craftsmanship, such as hand-cut dovetails on the leg-to-pedestal joins, hand-turned column profiles, and natural timber shrinkage leading to slightly oval tops. Dark oxidisation and wear consistent with age on the underside of the base also indicate genuine age.

A mahogany tripod table functions well as an occasional side table beside contemporary seating, in a hallway alcove, or positioned in an empty corner. Its compact footprint and elevated stem allow it to blend seamlessly into modern, eclectic, or traditional room layouts.

Preserve the original finish by applying a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year, buffing gently with a soft cloth. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and excessive fading of the patina.
